Two people in a household with a neurological brain disorder… I witnessed much. I realized we have to look again how we deal with old age and illness. More importantly – we must stop the cruel practice of isolation.
So many days without writing. I have not had a minute. Cecilia has not been here for days. She is a young nurse who helps me mornings. Her cold would not quit. This was hard on us. Hard on her too. She needs money badly. Her two young children – in Dominican Republic – depend on her pathetic sum of money. And her Catalan husband has no work. Just like the sixty percent unemployed young adults in Spain.
I wondered if Cecilia will be able to buy food. Tormenting thoughts were going around in my head. Should I allow her to come and work here wearing a mask? No, it would have been too risky for Shelly. If he catches a cold it can easily become pneumonia. A disaster for him. Four years ago he had pneumonia and spent six weeks in intensive care. Miraculously he recovered but has not been able to walk again.
This morning Cecilia was back . Totally fine. How happy we all were to see each other. What a relief.
